This is a fictional account of the life of the young Serbian terrorist, Gavrilo Princep, who touched off World War I in 1914 by assassinating the Archduke Franz Ferdinand. Rehr has used all the known details of Princep's life as source material and made educated guesses at the rest. The result is gripping portrait of radicalization as resonant with today's world as with the past.
Creators
Henrik Rehr was born 1964 in Odense, Denmark. His first graphic novel Drommen om langskibene (The dream of the longships) was published in 1987 and he has subsequently created 24 more graphic novels. From 1989 to 2006 he drew the syndicated newspaper comic strip Ferd'nand and from 2001-2003 he created another strip, Sandslotte (Castles in the sand). Rehr was an eyewitness to 9/11 and published Tribeca Sunset about the event in 2005. He has also worked as an artist on Rasmus Klump (Petzi) and Beetle Bailey. Rehr moved from his native Denmark to the United States in 1992 and lives in downtown Manhattan with his wife and two sons.
