Comic Strip Fiction / Graphic Novels
A colourful, big-hearted middle-grade graphic novel by a rising talent. Sincerely, Harriet is a love letter to the books that change our lives, with a misfit protagonist readers will instantly adore.
Harriet Flores struggles with boredom, an unrequited crush, and a multiple sclerosis diagnosis through a long, hot, 1990s summer in Chicago. She uses her imagination to cope, which sometimes gets her into trouble, as she makes up fantastical fibs and wonders if there are ghosts upstairs. One neighbour, Pearl, encourages Harriet to read and write, leading Harriet to have a breakthrough and discover the power of storytelling.

Reviews
It’s an encouraging story that may provide comfort for those living with a chronic illness, and may help others to understand some of the frustrations of Multiple Sclerosis, which can include emotional distress, lack of energy and difficulties with balance. This is a valuable and moving book that is absolutely perfect for readers of Raina Telgemeier aged 10+.
Readings
I usually have a quick gut response with illustration styles, and the pinky-purple tones and clean style of Sincerely, Harriet are visual catnip for me. I can’t recommend this sympathetic and intimate graphic novel for tweens highly enough – look out for it next month!
Readings
Rating: 4.5/5 I loved the illustrations in this graphic, it was simplistic and yet, delightful. I loved the postcard aspect of the story as well. It draws attention to harsh world of girls and how bloody nasty we can be. Trust me, they are snide nasty, my favourite kind. This was a quick, little tale that was beautiful and needs to be read!
