Angela Barrett

Angela Barrett is widely regarded as one of the UK’s finest illustrators. Born in Essex, she left school at 15 and spent 8 years at art school. She was awarded an MA from the Royal College of Art where she was taught by Quentin Blake. After leaving college she began to design work for a number of commercial enterprises, including book covers for several publishers. Her illustrations have appeared in the Sunday Times Magazine, The Observer Magazine and House and Garden. Her highly collectable work has been regularly exhibited in the UK and abroad. She won the 1989 Nestle Children’s Book Prize for “Can It Be True?” and the 1991 WH Smith Illustration Award for “The Hidden House” and was short listed for the 1993 Kate Greenaway medal for “Beware Beware”. In addition, she has been short listed three times for the Kurt Maschler Award. Her other picture book titles include the exquisite “Beauty and the Beast”.
